Karen Gillan is to play notorious 16th century English queen Mary Tudor known as 'Bloody Mary' in new historic comedy film Fools

Karen Gillan is to play 16th century English queen Mary Tudor in her next movie role.

Set in the 16th century in the aftermath of Henry VIII's death, Fools follows England's first queen Mary I as she takes the throne in a divided country on the brink of chaos. The pious and apparently humorless queen finds Jane's brilliant slapstick routines uproariously funny, and they strike up a genuine friendship, the comedy lightening Mary's mood in the darkest of times, and helping fend off Pole's murderous manipulation. Patsy Ferran (pictured) and Brenda Blethyn will star in the upcoming film which is set to shoot later this year and is being produced by Ryan Bennett of PaperEpic Productions
