Julia Roberts reveals the real reason why she nearly turned down her iconic role as famous actress Anna Scott in Notting Hill

The actress, 56, is now synonymous with the smash hit rom-com, where she starred alongside Hugh Grant, but she said she was initially reluctant to take on the part.

Speaking to the film's director Richard Curtis for Vogue's February issue, Julia said: 'Honestly, one of the hardest things I've ever had to do was [Notting Hill], playing a movie actress, I was so uncomfortable! In the iconic scene where Anna rushes back to William Thacker (Hugh Grant) and says 'I'm just a girl' in an admission of love, Julia was wearing her own clothes. She shared: 'My driver, lovely Tommy, I sent him back to my flat that morning, I said, "Go into my bedroom and grab this, this and this out of my closet", and it was my own flip-flops and my cute little blue velvet skirt and a T-shirt and my cardigan.'
