Joshua Oppenheimer Breaks Down His Ambitious Post-Apocalyptic Musical ‘The End’: “It’s A Miracle This Got Made” — Thessaloniki
Joshua Oppenheimer's 'The End' closes the Thessaloniki Film Festival tonight.
Best known for his intellectually rich and Oscar-nominated non-fiction works The Act of Killing(2012) and The Look of Silence(2014), Oppenheimer’s latest is his first fiction project, and for it he has recruited one of the most impressive ensembles of the year. Styled as a Golden Age Hollywood musical, The End is set in a post-apocalyptic world twenty-five years after environmental collapse left the Earth uninhabitable. “ The End is really about how important it is to have the most inclusive and widely defined human family and our mutual interconnectedness,” Oppenheimer explained of the pic — which will be released in the U.S. by Neon — from a hotel room in Thessaloniki.
