John Williams cancels concert appearances at Tanglewood, Hollywood Bowl due to illness (expected to fully recover)

According to a Boston Symphony announcement to ticket-holders, the megastar film composer and conductor is recovering from a recent, unspecified health issue.

The Film Night program, including a tribute to Henry Mancini to celebrate his 100th birth anniversary, is otherwise unchanged. Former Boston Symphony associate conductor Ken-David Masur will be on the podium for the first half of the Film Night shows, as planned. For the Aug. 6 Tanglewood on Parade program, Masur will substitute for Williams, also at his request, joining conductors Keith Lockhart, Alan Gilbert, and Anna Rakitina in leading the planned tribute to Seiji Ozawa.
