John McAllister, an inmate at the Williams Correctional Facility in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, who was featured on Netflix ‘s recent hit docuseries Unlocked: A Jail Experiment, died Sunday, June 2, after being found unresponsive in his bunk. McAllister, who went by the nickname “Eastside” on the prison docuseries, had been serving a three-year sentence after being convicted of ten felony counts related to drugs, breaking and entering, theft of property, and firearms possession. Although guards were always on watch, the inmates were free to leave their unlocked cells and make choices for how to spend their days within the facility.
