John Carpenter Would ‘Love to Direct Again’ with a Caveat: ‘I Can’t Back Into a Budget Anymore’

John Carpenter explained what would make him direct again.

Carpenter told Variety before receiving his a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on April 3 that he would “love to direct again,” but he would have to have the proper financing. The legendary horror auteur remotely directed 2023 TV series “Suburban Screams,” which was filmed in Prague. “Suburban Screams” was his first directorial effort in over five years; in 2017, he released a series of remake music videos including “Escape from New York” and “Christine.” Carpenter’s most recent film was 2010’s “The Ward.”
