Jessica Simpson Shares the Surprising Reason Daughter Maxwell Prompted Her Return to Her Nashville Roots (Exclusive)


In this week's issue of PEOPLE, Jessica Simpson shares how her 12-year-old daughter Maxwell prompted her return to her Nashville roots and helped in the creation of her new EP, 'Nashville Canyon, Part 1.'

There, she worked with a group of songwriters and recorded her new EP, Nashville Canyon, Part 1, a collection of sultry rockabilly tunes, which drops in full on March 21. In January, she and husband Eric Johnson, with whom she has three kids, Maxwell, 12, Ace, 11, and Birdie, 5, announced their split after ten years of marriage. Everything from "Amazing Grace" — “the most important song in my life and the one I sang on my 17th birthday when I got signed to Columbia Records" — to Janis Joplin’s "Piece of My Heart."
