Romania’s Emanuel Parvu won best director for Three Kilometers to the End of the World about a young gay man who is brutally attacked when he returns to his conservative village in the Danube Delta wetlands region for the summer. The unrequited love story revolves around a young playwright, who secretly writes a play based on the sexual assault he experienced as a child, with the help of a married woman in Paris who is the object of his desire, while faces an arranged marriage at home.
