Jay Slater dead - statement in full as missing teen's cause of death confirmed

The cause of death for missing British teenager Jay Slater has been confirmed in a statement after his body was found in Tenerife following a lengthy search for the 19 year old

The High Court of Justice of the Canary Islands said in a statement: "We have a positive identification and more data: fingerprint tests show that the body is [that] of Jay Slater and that the death was caused by trauma consistent with a fall in a rocky area." After a night at a secluded Airbnb with someone from the festival, Jay embarked on his long walk back to his Los Christianos resort rather than waiting for a bus. In a troubling turn, Jay messaged his friend Lucy Law at around 8.30am on the day he disappeared, indicating that he would soon be unreachable as his phone battery was nearly dead - he also mentioned an injury from a cactus encounter.
