James Cameron Says Blockbuster Movies Can Only Survive If We ‘Cut the Cost in Half’; He’s Exploring How AI Can Help Without ‘Laying Off the Staff’
James Cameron says blockbuster movies will not survive if Hollywood doesn't figure out how to cut the cost in half, and AI could help.
Cameron announced in September 2024 that he was joining the board of directors for Stability AI, the company behind the text-to-image model Stable Diffusion. In an interview with CTV News last year, the director expressed doubt over AI bots being able to write “a good story” and phase out screenwriters. Cameron remains in post-production on the next “Avatar” sequel, “Fire & Ash,” which is set for release Dec. 19 from Disney and 20th Century Studios.
