ITV Corrie's Martin Platt actor Sean Wilson says soap is 'in crisis' as it 'loses viewers'

Coronation Street legend Sean Wilson, who played Martin Platt, says the soap is losing viewers because the writers are trying to 'solve the world's issues' rather than entertain

Former Coronation Street actor Sean Wilson, who played Martin Platt from 1985 until 2005, has shared his concerns about the show's future, declaring that it is in "crisis" due to a declining number of viewers. He then suggested that years ago who could have walked down the streets and heard people laughing with their windows open while watching the show, which is something you won't find happening now. He said: "Watching Coronation Street when I was in it was a family thing, people would sit around and maybe have their food or have a cup of tea together and have a good laugh together, shed a tear or two at some of the sad moments.
