Is Tom Cruise the last true movie star? Star cements his action hero status with Olympics stunt - while Scientology beliefs and rift with Suri never seem to tarnish his image

After his Olympics role, Tom's reputation remains untarnished - despite playing 'no part' in his 18-year-old daughter Suri's life.

Tom Cruise cemented his status as a film icon on Sunday night as he jumped off the roof of the Stade de France to close the 2024 Olympics in Paris and passed the baton to Los Angeles, whic will host the 2028 games. Intriguingly, his stunt had echoes of Daniel Craig's big moment at the London 2012 Olympics when he recorded a sketch with the late Queen, followed by a live-action sequence where two stuntmen disguised as Her Majesty and Bond parachuted into the stadium from a helicopter. And certainly, in terms, of star power, there are few actors, if any, left in Hollywood who can compete with his particular brand: a megawatt action hero who breaks box office records while being friends with royalty and a mainstay of all the biggest social events in Europe.
