Iron Maiden Drummer Nicko McBrain Announces He’s Taking a ‘Step Back’ From Touring

Iron Maiden drummer Nicko McBrain announced in a statement that he is retiring from touring, with his final show taking place on Dec. 7 in Brazil.

“After much consideration, it is with both sorrow and joy, I announce my decision to take a step back from the grind of the extensive touring lifestyle,” McBrain shared in a statement on Iron Maiden’s website. McBrain, who joined Iron Maiden in 1982, replacing Clive Burr, has been an integral part of the band’s sound, drumming on every album since Piece of Mind in 1983. Saturday’s performance marks the final show of Iron Maiden’s The Future Past world tour, which began in September.
