Inside the real life story behind ITV's Breathtaking: Dr Rachel Clarke's life from NHS doctor to war hero husband
Remembering the harrowing dark days of Covid is tough for most but for frontline hero Dr Rachel Clarke it was on another level. We explore who she really is and what she stands for
Although lots of fan-favourite scenes featuring Dr Clarke did not actually affect her and were purely for dramatic effect, the real life medical expert has stressed how 'very important' it is that people understand the events unfolding during the show really did happen to someone - whether that be a patient or NHS staff member. Dr Rachel Clarke is not only intelligent and passionate, but also strongly sticks up for what she believes is the right thing to do (Image: ITV/REX/Shutterstock)Finally qualifying in 2009, she began work as a junior doctor, covering areas ranging from emergency medicines and cardiology to paediatrics before moving to her selfless role in palliative care in 2016. Breathtaking is co-written by Line of Duty creator Jed Mercurio and Prasanna Puwanarajah - both ex-doctors - and has crucially shown the public a tear-jerking scene in the back of am ambulance, depicting a patient left to die due to rules at the time that prevented medics from giving CPR over infection fears.
