As The Repair Shop begins a new series on BBC One, let's take a look at cobbler Dean Westmoreland's life away from the show including how his job left him with a permanent injury

With a new series of The Repair Shop set to hit our screens on Wednesday, 10 April, a whole new host of individuals will be entering through the iconic barn doors in the hopes of watching a beloved item brought back to life. Hailing from Yorkshire, Dean started his career working as a footwear specialist at JJB Sports before becoming an apprentice shoemaker. “This thumb has been caught on the machine so many times that it's now squared off.” Perhaps unsurprisingly, he added that he gets some hand ache after a long day of cobbling.
