Inside Britain’s Got Talent’s biggest Ofcom complaints as new series ruffles feathers – from burping to Abba to being engulfed in fire


Britain's Got Talent has prompted tens of thousands of complaints to the media regulator Ofcom over the years. Here are some examples.

Rewind a year to April 2023, when stuntman Thomas Vu shocked audiences in the auditorium and at home with a performance involving a Rubik’s Cube and… a lot of fire. A month after Alesha’s necklace prompted nearly 2,000 viewers to write in to Ofcom, comedian Nabil Abdulrashid continued the national conversation on race relations in the UK with a series of routines. Other themes included the Covid-19 pandemic, poverty and capitalism; Banjo explained afterwards that the performance was supposed to represent a “round-up of an extraordinary year” and “summarise the crazy rollercoaster of emotions” of 2020.
