Independent Spirit Awards 2025: Baby Reindeer's Jessica Gunning eyes work with Kathy Bates
At this year's Independent Spirit Awards, Jessica, 38, won best breakthrough performance in a new scripted series for her turn on the Netflix series.
Kathy Bates won the best actress Oscar for her turn in Misery as an unhinged fan obsessed with a novelist played by James Caan. A UK law graduate called Fiona Harvey has claimed to be the basis for Martha and is currently suing Netflix for $120 million in defamation over the character's portrayal. Jessica has previously said that Kathy Bates' performance as Annie Wilkes in Misery was one of the topics of her research in order to play Martha, via People.
