The 39th Film Independent Spirit Awards red carpet kicked off on Sunday afternoon in Santa Monica - one day after the Screen Actors Guild Awards took place.

Brown got American Fiction, Noah Galvin for Theater Camp, Anne Hathaway for Eileen, Glenn Howerton for BlackBerry, Marin Ireland for Eileen, Charles Melton for May December, Da’Vine Joy Randolph for The Holdovers, Catalina Saavedra for Rotting in the Sun and Ben Whishaw for Passages. Nominees were determined by the Spirit Awards Nominating Committees using the following guidelines: uniqueness of vision, original and provocative subject matter and economy of means.
