In Latin America, Broadcasters Hold Strong While Streamers Still Have Plenty of Room to Grow: Ampere Analysis


Global TV orders were way down in 2024, but Latin America is poised for future growth with lots of room for streamer investment.

Black noted, “We have significant revenue growth in Subscription OTT still to come in LatAm over the next five years, while the decline of linear TV is set to be pretty muted.” This region’s relatively stable linear TV market – think Brazilian broadcasting giant Globo which continues to be Latin America’s biggest content producer and distributor, combined with the potential for substantial growth in subscription-based streaming services, positions it as a key player in the global streaming landscape. However, the past two years have seen a decline in scripted commissions, particularly in expensive-to-produce genres like sci-fi and fantasy, which are now reserved for U.S. and occasionally European productions. Streamers are keen on building franchises that lock audiences in with their service, making IP-based commissions a strategic priority.
