Hybrid documentary on Italian poet Gabriele D’Annunzio 'Fiume o morte!' wins Rotterdam Tiger Award, 'Raptures' wins Big Screen Competition.
Bezinović’s film captures the spirit of Italian poet, playwright, journalist, aristocrat and army officer Gabriele D’Annunzio — who in 1919 occupied the city of Fiume — through dramatic reconstruction and documentary interludes. “I was afraid the film would not communicate outside the far region but this award proves that it works universally and I don’t think theres a more beautiful thing a filmmaker can experience.” He concluded by saying, “We live in a very intense period and I hope that the good guys will win.” The jury, consisting of Bero Beyer, Dewi Reijs, Jia Zhao, Sara Rajaei and Digna Sinke, stated: “Driven by a complex leading role, the film is stunningly shot, literally composing its own language.
