Idina Menzel Is Venturing Into the Redwood
And, even more importantly, into the 2025 Best Actress in a Musical Tony race.
“I made my Broadway debut at the Nederlander Theatre in Rent almost thirty years ago,” Menzel said in a statement July 16, “so to be returning there with Redwood is very emotional for me as it feels like a real homecoming. It has been such a gift to collaborate with Tina and Kate on this show, and I’m so proud to bring it to Broadway.” Redwood, which was conceptualized by Landau and Menzel, follows a woman who has it all (family, job, etc.) For what it’s worth, Menzel’s Wicked co-star Kristin Chenoweth has a new musical, Queen of Versailles, premiering in Boston this summer that could still make it onto Broadway this season — just in case we want even more chaos.
