She started her film career on a strong note by making a small, uncredited appearance in legendary director William Friedkin's adaptation of the hit play The Boys In The Band. Adams — who was born Maud Solveig Christina Wikström in Luleå, Sweden — made her first appearance in the franchise with 1974's The Man With The Golden Gun; seen in the film with Roger Moore as Bond Octopussy was similarly dismissed by critics, many of whom faulted its attempts to make Bond more clownish, but the film earned double The Man With The Golden Gun's box office returns.
