I thought Gillian Anderson was too perfect to play me, says Salt Path author

Raynor Winn, whose book about walking the coast with her terminally ill husband has been made into a film, tells the Hay Festival she was shocked by the casting

Raynor Winn’s book about walking the South West Coast Path with her husband after he was diagnosed with an incurable disease has been made into a film, which opens in cinemas next week. The couple set out with nothing but a tent bought on eBay, £115 in cash, and a paycard to withdraw their £48 a week in tax credits, only to find that walking actually helped to slow the progression of Moth’s illness. To get Anderson and Isaacs into the spirit of the film, Elliott said she made the two actors trek for four hours in total silence, off camera, carrying heavy backpacks so they could experience the hardship of Winn and her husband.
