Huge ITV show axed after three series despite millions of viewers and famous cast

The Tower, which was based on the work of a former police officer-turned-author, has been axed by ITV after three series, despite being popular with fans and boasting an impressive cast

"The Tower was much loved by the audience who watched the drama but the viewing figures for the last series did not reach expectations so sadly we won't be recommissioning," an ITV spokesperson revealed to The Sun. In the gripping third series, audiences followed Gemma's character, police officer Sarah Collins, as she delved into the case of a teenager's stabbing and grappled with her dual life as a detective and mother. Patrick Harbinson, who adapted the original books for TV, had been optimistic about its continuation telling press back in August: "I'm already writing the first episode of The Tower four just to show to ITV that we're ready to go, because Kate [London] has already written a brilliant fourth novel, The Misper, on which the new series would be based.
