How VistaVision Made an Unlikely Comeback at the TCM Film Festival, With First Screenings Since the 1950s to Bring Back the Long-Lost Format’s Imax-Style Projectors
At the TCM Classic Film Festival, movies were screened using the original 1950s projectors built for the format for the first time since the 1950s.

Everyone who is a major film buff has probably seen a normal 35mm print of an original VistaVision release like “Vertigo” or “The 10 Commandments” in a venue like the New Beverly or the Vista (no relation) and thought it looked good but not earth-shakingly great. So films that were shot in this (VistaVision) division were printed down to a standard 35mm 4-perf format for release, allowing theaters to screen them on any projector and not to need special projection equipment,” Barker said.
