How Kelly Monaco Landed Her 'Dream' Soap Opera Role After Career Setback

Kelly Monaco opened up about how she landed her iconic ‘General Hospital’ role of Sam McCall after dealing with a setback in her career

“I remember very specifically that I was at a diner in the Valley when I got the call that Port Charles was being canceled and my heart sunk,” the actress, 48, said in a 2023 interview with Soap Opera Digest marking her 20th anniversary on General Hospital. Ever since she made her debut as Olivia “Livvie” Locke on Port Charles in 1999, the actress has captivated audiences with her character development and shocking story lines. Late last month, Monaco addressed her departure in a since-deleted Instagram comment on a Soap Hub post after one user referred to the actress as “monotone, had no primary roles and just boring.”
