Having met at university, the couple sparked up a romance before temporarily calling time on their relationship, which saw Kate's uncle, Gary Goldsmith, step in to support his niece. Gary, who is Carole Middleton's younger brother and a self-made millionaire, previously spoke about his niece's trip and said Kate "was very low".
