How Are Taylor Swift and Poet Emily Dickinson Related? Ancestry Reveals They Are Distant Cousins

Taylor Swift and legendary poet Emily Dickinson have more in common than their way with words. According to Ancestry, they are actually distant relatives.

One of Dickinson’s poems, titled, “One Sister Have I in Our House,” even ended with the line “Sue – forevermore!,” further convincing fans that the album was a nod to the iconic wordsmith. “If my lyrics sound like a letter written by Emily Dickinson’s great-grandmother while sewing a lace curtain,” Taylor said while accepting Songwriter-Artist of the Decade at the Nashville Songwriter Awards in September 2022, “that’s me writing in the quill genre.” Shortly after she accepted her Best Pop Vocal Album award for Midnights, Taylor went backstage and shared the cover art for The Tortured Poets Department, as well as a handwritten note, via social media.
