How 'Bridgerton' Hinted at Francesca's Sexuality Before Michaela Gender Swap

'Bridgerton' showrunner Jess Brownell has suggesting changing Francesca's love interest from Michael to Michaela since season 1 of the show

Bridgerton surprised book fans by changing Francesca’s future love interest from Michael to Michaela, but the show’s creative team is excited about the meaningful swap. Season 3 offered Francesca (Hannah Dodd) a much larger role — following a recasting — where viewers watched her fall in love with John (Victor Alli). Brownell also made it clear that she wanted Francesca and Michaela to have a happy ending, adding, “Going forward, what I am trying to do is use examples from history I can jump off [of] and potentially tell a new origin story of how the Bridgerton world might move towards a more inclusive society in terms of sexuality.”
