How ‘A Quiet Place’ Became One of Horror’s Most Reliable Box Office Franchises


"A Quiet Place" continues to make noise at the box office after the new prequel film, "Day One," launched to franchise-best numbers.

The enduring appeal of the trio of films, the most recent entry serving as an origin story, signals that “A Quiet Place” has enough power to fill seats at multiplexes based on the strength of its name. The series kept up the pedigree by casting Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong’o opposite “Stranger Things” breakout Joseph Quinn in the story set during the early stages of a New York City alien invasion. Paramount’s president of domestic distribution Chris Aronson says the property’s supporters had been asking the studio for an origin story about those chilling monsters that eventually forced the population into hiding from terrifying, sound-hunting creatures.
