Home Alone star Daniel Stern reveals he fought to get a raise for sequel and ended up with five times his original salary: 'I knew they couldn't do the movie without me'
When the original 1990 movie became a box office hit and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York was immediately greenlit, he recalled the studios approaching him with an offer of $600,000.
He also wrote in his book that leading star Macaulay Culkin, now 43, got a sequel deal for $5 million plus 5 percent of the gross box office earnings. Initially, Stern recalled producers taking six months just to make him the offer of $600,000, which he added was 'double my original salary, but not quite the pot of gold I was hoping for.' Ahead of his memoir going on the shelves on Tuesday, he told the Los Angeles Times that he agreed in the end because 'there's lots of things I get out of the movies besides money.'
