One month later, Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón officially recommended that Erik and Lyle be resentenced to 50 years, which could allow them to be released on parole for time served if approved by a judge. The athlete, who died of prostate cancer at age 76 in April 2024, was found liable for Nicole and Goldman’s deaths after their families sued him in a civil trial. He cited the ongoing East Coast-West Coast hip hop feud and the murder of Tupac Shakur as reasons why he felt his life was in danger.
