The actor has played John Paul McQueen in the Channel 4 soap opera on and off for almost 20 years and some of his co-stars were quick to congratulate him on the happy news. James had met Rachael at Glastonbury Festival and returned there to tie the knot in 2018, but have they went gone their separate ways after five years of marriage last September. James joined Hollyoaks in 2006 and has featured in a whole host of the drama's high-profile homosexuality storylines, including ones of male rape and homophobia
