Harvey Weinstein's Sex Crime Retrial Begins With Opening Statements: 'The Defendant Wanted Their Bodies'

The Hollywood mogul is back on trial in New York after his 2020 sex crime conviction was overturned.

Lucey told jurors that Sokola has alleged that Weinstein forcibly performed oral sex in a New York City hotel in 2006, according to the BBC. In his opening statements, Weinstein's attorney Arthur Aidala claimed that while the mogul's behavior was possibly "immoral," it was not illegal and that any sexual acts were consensual. But in April 2024, the 2020 conviction was tossed after his lawyers successfully argued that the trial judge unfairly allowed three women whose accusations were not part of the charges to testify, the AP reported.
