Harvey Weinstein Appears in New York Court After Overturned Conviction, New Trial Expected for Fall
Harvey Weinstein appeared in New York court after his rape conviction was overturned.
It’s the first time the former movie producer has been seen in public since he was convicted of rape in a Los Angeles court and sentenced to 16 years in prison in February 2023. Last Thursday, New York’s highest court ruled in a 4-3 decision that the judge in Weinstein’s 2020 trial had erred by allowing women to testify about allegations that were not part of the case. “It is an abuse of judicial discretion to permit untested allegations of nothing more than bad behavior that destroys a defendant’s character but sheds no light on their credibility as related to the criminal charges lodged against them.”
