On 9th June, 2015, under the influence of painkillers, Gypsy ignored her mother's pleas for help as Nicholas, now serving life without parole, committed the murderous act. Gypsy is the only reported case of a person suffering from Munchausen syndrome by proxy - where usually a mother invents or deliberately causes symptoms to make a child appear ill - who has murdered their abuser in an attempt to escape. While speaking to Good Morning America host Deborah Roberts, she held strong that her mother wasn't a "monster" despite enduring years of abuse.
