Green Day’s New Album ‘Saviors’ Is 1 of Their Best Releases in Years

Green Day delivers their strongest showing in years with ‘Saviors,’ which finds them rocking out, bearing their hearts and raising defiant middle fingers

Saviors sees Green Day — Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt and drummer Tré Cool — make a welcome course correction from 2020’s Father of All Motherf–kers, a slightly unfocused album that incorporated elements of indie and arena rock, resulting in an LP as sonically messy as its badly drawn cover art. Thankfully, Green Day stops short of forgetting they’re all in their 50s now, steering clear of the midlife rocker crisis cliché by avoiding songs about subjects they’ve outgrown. The long-running punk band announced the last slate of shows of its Final Tour, ensuring the group behind songs like “Linoleum” and “Bob” will go out on a high note – even though frontman Fat Mike isn’t at the moment.
