Grateful Dead received touching honor just days before bassist Phil Lesh died at age 84
MusiCares will honor the members of the iconic rock band the Grateful Dead as the 2025 MusiCares Persons of the Year during the 34th annual benefit gala in Los Angeles on January 31.
The news of Lesh's passing comes days after the announced that he and Grateful Dead members Bob Weir, Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann will be honored with the 2025 MusiCares Persons Of The Year Original Grateful Dead members Mickey Hart, Bobby Weir, Bill Kreutzmann (all pictured in 2017), along with Phil Lesh, will be recognized for their immense contributions to music, their tireless philanthropic efforts and activism Established in 1989 and incorporated in 1993 by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, the MusiCares Foundation was created for musicians to have a place to turn to in times of financial and personal troubles, along with medical issues.
