Grace review: Balmy climate, scenic landscapes - Brighton's the perfect murder spot, writes CHRISTOPHER STEVENS
One of the advantages of the South Coast, apart from its balmy climate and good transport links, is the scenic backdrop it offers for murder.
Detective Superintendent Roy Grace, on his Brighton patch, doesn't have to contend with the windswept moors or dingy tenements that are the stomping grounds of colleagues such as Vera or Rebus. John Simm plays the fretful detective, conscientious and demanding of his team but equally willing to give praise and support — the opposite of the 'maverick' type who star in most crime dramas. 'You don't have to live in the past — just let it go,' he pleaded with Aileen's bereaved brother, a hollow sentiment that earned him a sarcastic glance from his sidekick, DS Branson (Richie Campbell).
