Good Morning Britain guest John Cena looks perplexed as he judges leotard-clad Ed Balls and his short-lived wrestling career in unearthed clip
With the American star on hand to discuss his colourful career, Balls was prompted to recall his own rather less successful experience in the wrestling ring.
The former Secretary of State, who has traded the perils of political life for a rather more comfortable career in mainstream television, reflected on one of his past TV endeavours while interviewing professional wrestler turned actor John Cena. In 2018 the presenter grappled with professional WWE star Johnny Slaughter during an episode of his BBC social commentary series, Travels In Trumpland - with decidedly mixed results. Commenting on Barbie star Margot Robbie and the film's director Greta Gerwig being omitted from this year's Oscar nominations, he said: 'Unfortunately, I can't give a good answer for that because I am not involved in that decision making.
