Their love grew stronger, leading to Giles's romantic gesture of sending flowers to Mary at her journalist post at Tatler Magazine to pop the big question. Recalling this pivotal moment in a chat with The Telegraph, Mary recounts how Giles levelled up, embracing style and ambition: "When we broke up in 1985 you suddenly became very competent; you got new, chic clothes and started working hard."
