Global South, Women Directors Take Center Stage in Visions du Réel Industry Lineup
Visions du Réel industry program unveiled: record female participation, support for filmmakers from Global South and for new voices in documentary.
Backed by the Swiss Development Cooperation, the Lab supports emerging filmmakers from low-production capacity countries with a nine-month mentorship program, financial aid and creative guidance, to help them build global networks while remaining rooted in their local industries. “If we can talk about a unifying factor, it must be the incredible determination of these directors and their production teams, working in increasingly complex conditions, to bring us powerful stories and strong cinematic approaches that offer us another prism in which to see the world – one which is creative, brave, passionate and even hopeful. This edition of VdR-Industry will also see the Réel Talk discussions – introduced by Burgin last year – resume with a shift of focus from funding to distribution, exploring diverse models, from traditional theatrical releases to museum-based and self-distribution strategies.
