George Santos, Ex-Congressman, Sentenced to 87 Months in Prison on Fraud Charges


George Santos, a former Congressman, was sentenced Friday to 87 months in prison for a series of campaign finance schemes.

“From his creation of a wholly fictitious biography to his callous theft of money from elderly and impaired donors, Santos’s unrestrained greed and voracious appetite for fame enabled him to exploit the very system by which we select our representatives.” They also cited a history of mental health issues, including depression and suicidal thoughts, in seeking leniency. He sued Jimmy Kimmel, after the TV host aired videos his staff had commissioned to test whether Santos would say absurd remarks.
