Gene Hackman’s Pacemaker Hints He Died 9 Days Before Body Was Found

Santa Fe sheriff stated in a press conference that the last recorded event of Gene Hackman’s pacemaker was on February 17

“Both individuals tested negative for carbon monoxide, [and] an initial interrogation was conducted of Mr. Hackman’s pacemaker,” Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza said in a press conference on Friday, February 28. However, Mendoza added that the deaths of Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, are still under “active investigation.” He also noted that it is hard to determine who died first and said authorities are still waiting on some pending tests, including a toxicology report. While appearing on the Today show on Friday, February 28, Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza said investigators still have some unanswered questions — including how long the couple were deceased before their bodies were located.
