Gary Lineker has broken his silence after it was confirmed that he will step down as the host of Match of the Day at the end of the 2024-25 season after 25 years

Gary Lineker has finally spoken out following the announcement that he'll be leaving the BBC's Match of the Day after a 26-year run as the show's host. Gary took over from Desmond Lynam and has been a fixture on screens ever since, with reports suggesting he peaked at a salary of around £1.35 million per year, making him the top earner at BBC Lineker, who was also a star striker for Leicester, Tottenham and England, previously made light of speculation he could depart Match of the Day during a show in October, when he joked it would be his last episode in charge.
