Game of Thrones Star Ian Gelder Dead at 74 Five Months After Cancer Diagnosis: 'My Absolute Rock,' Says Husband

Ian Gelder, known for his role on 'Game of Thrones' died on Monday, May 6, at age 74 following a five-month journey with bile duct cancer, according to his husband Ben Daniels.

He made the announcement next to a photo of the two at Christmas, which he shared was after Gelder had gotten out of the hospital and experienced "the worst three weeks." Gelder's agent also confirmed his death to PEOPLE, remembering him as "a beautiful man, a fine actor" and someone who "will be hugely missed by his colleagues and all those that loved him." According to his IMDb page, Gelder appeared in 12 episodes of Game of Thrones and had many other notable credits, including Doctor Who,Fifteen-Love, and His Dark Materials.
