Gabrielle hits back at bullies: ‘If I'd listened to negativity I'd never have attempted to sing'

EXCLUSIVE: Ahead of the release of her new album, singer Gabrielle has opened up about her career so far, including how she stood up to bullies that mocked her for her lazy eye

The 54 year old star is best known to fans for her breakout track Dreams, which topped the UK singles chart when it was first released back in 1993, however it was her 2000 classic Out of Reach, which featured in Bridget Jones’ Diary, which truly catapulted her to global stardom. But while her success has continued to climb, it wasn’t always the easiest road to stardom, with the singer revealing she had been bullied as a child as a result of her lazy eye, with many of her peers shooting down her dreams of megastardom at an early age. Discussing her rise to fame and how she overcame schoolyard bullies on the latest edition of the I Never Thought It Would Happen podcast from Help Musicians, Gabrielle told show host and Squeeze founder Chris Difford: “I'm the girl with the lazy eyelid people used to take the mickey out of when I was younger at school.”
