Gérard Depardieu sexual assault trial postponed after actor’s no-show

French actor, accused of assaulting two women during film shoot, asks for trial to be postponed for health reasons

“Gerard Depardieu is extremely affected and unfortunately his doctors have forbid him from being present at the hearing, which is why he will ask for a postponement to a later date so that he can attend,” Jérémie Assous told Franceinfo on Monday morning. Depardieu had been expected to appear at a criminal court hearing at 1.30pm (1230 GMT) for the start of his trial for allegedly sexually assaulting two women during a film shoot. “I expect the justice system to be the same for everybody and for Monsieur Depardieu not to receive special treatment just because he’s an artist,” the plaintiff’s lawyer, Carine Durrieu-Diebolt, told AFP.
