A TV licence is necessary if you watch or record live TV on any channel, irrespective of the device used - be it a television, computer, laptop, tablet, or mobile.

Students living away from home might also be covered under their parents' TV licence, but only if they're watching on a device such as a mobile phone, tablet or laptop. Moreover, if you live in residential care or sheltered accommodation, you might qualify for a concessionary TV licence, which costs £7.50 per room, flat or bungalow.
