FTC Cracks Down on Hidden Concert-Ticket Fees

The Federal Trade Commission announced a new rule requiring ticket companies to disclose fees right away rather than hide at the end of a purchase.

“People deserve to know up front what they’re being asked to pay — without worrying that they’ll later be saddled with mysterious fees that they haven’t budgeted for and can’t avoid,” FTC Chair Lina Khan said in a statement. “Showing the total cost to walk in the door upfront is better for fans and artists,” Live Nation CEO Michael Rapino said in a statement earlier this year. Meanwhile, the biggest music industry story this year was the DOJ’s lawsuit seeking to break up Live Nation and Ticketmaster, accusing the concert giant of antitrust violations.
